Family Connection is an entity of state government with a statewide network of 159 counties who have made a commitment to improve results for children and families. Each community has a broad-based collaborative that is a public/private partnership.

The collaborative develops, implements, and evaluates a community strategic plan. Local leaders come together to make decisions about what results are desired, set priorities to achieve the results, allocate resources, and hold themselves accountable for the well being of children and families in their community. To measure community and state progress, five result areas were developed. Result Areas for Georgia's families are: healthy children, children ready for school, children succeeding in school, and self-sufficient families.
